What Hope Looks Like
Simply leaving the Kingston property untouched will not restore the land or beauty of the environment. Instead, Cameratta Companies plans to invest millions of dollars into the property’s restoration, addressing three key components.
Wildlife
Wildlife Benefits
- Creation of wildlife corridors for safe migration.
- Residential lands will be fenced to deter human/wildlife interaction.
- Provides natural landscape to restore wildlife habitats.
Water Quality
Water Quality Benefits
- Converting from agricultural to residential usage will result in:
- 80% reduction in phosphorus.
- 49% reduction in nitrogen.
- 77% reduction in groundwater withdrawal.
- Reduction in the use of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.
Wetlands
Wetland Benefits
- Restore natural flow-ways for surface water and groundwater.
- Hydrological restoration will recharge groundwater and aquifers
- Creation of approximately 400 acres of new wetlands within the approximately 3,300 acres of conservation lands.
Our Commitment
As a responsible developer, Cameratta Companies has pledged to significantly enhance the property’s environmental features. Proposed improvements are extensive and include:
- Wildlife Crossings: Coordinate with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission to construct an onsite primary wildlife crossing, as well as designate 12 smaller mammal crossings throughout Kingston, with associated fencing.
- Panther Research: Donate funds to the Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida Fund for panther conservation and research.
- Create Panther and Wildlife Habitat: Plant approximately 350,000 native trees and shrubs, along with 5.7 million ground cover plants, and place approximately 3,300 acres in a conservation easement to protect land in perpetuity.
- Water Quality Monitoring: Continuous constituent monitoring of surface water and ground water.
- Flow-ways: Create roughly 450 acres of wetland flow-ways to restore natural water flow in the region.
- Recharge Wells: Install new groundwater recharge wells to reduce aquifer interconnection and contamination.
- Eliminate previously approved rock mine.
- Irrigation Wells: Plug abandoned irrigation wells to prevent groundwater contamination.
- Roadway Improvements: Contribute to the Lee County Proportionate Share Fee to fund local roadway improvements, flow-way culverts and wildlife crossings.
- Groundwater Irrigation: Reduce permitted groundwater irrigation withdrawals by 9.9 million gallons per day.
